Work Experience
 
September 2009 - April 2010
Freelance design consultant and project manager for North Lanarkshire Council. Work has included concept generation and development for a large-scale display of childrens' poetry on the main wall of a library in Newarthill. Currently a final design has been agreed, a fabricator appointed and project set for completion by end of April 2010.
 
February - April 2010
Freelance designer for East Park school in Maryhill, Glasgow. Design conception, detailing and project management of lighting display acknowledging donations to the building of their new school.
 
November 2009
Designer in residence with Eleanor Young at Welcome Home Shop in Partick, Glasgow. Residency involved the design and manufacture of furniture and lighting culminating in a 2-week exhibition.
 
September 2009
Major exhibition with creative collaborator Eleanor Young of Fun Makes Good to exhibit at 100% Design, London, 24-27 September. Exhibiting a range of furniture and lighting together under the name B+Y Design. Work included exhibition stand design and execution, design of brand and marketing materials, product photography, website design and build, and staffing the exhibition itself.
 
August 2009
CAD drawing work for The Health & Beauty Company, Aberdeen (Product &
Packaging solutions company). Work involved producing 2D and 3D technical
drawings for a healthcare product.
 
Design and build of b+y design website - showcasing the work of Hamish Bigg + Eleanor Young for the upcoming 100% Design London exhibition.
 
July 2009 - Present
Research and ongoing design of a safety utility knife for Alyn Walsh Ltd. Glasgow (Architect & entrepreneur). The client wanted to create a cutter that would lessen accidents & resulting law suits on building sites. Work in progress.
 
September 2008-September 2009
Designer in Residence at The Glasgow School of Art. Post includes various responsibilities from student support, group leadership on study trips, designing department literature, and attending workshops. The post has also provided the opportunity and resources to develop personal projects.
 
September 2008-June 2009
Extensive freelance product photography and Photoshop work for Albyn Ltd, Aberdeen (Product & Packaging solutions company). Work involved producing images for brands such as Toni & Guy, Lee Stafford and Boots. Work has also included intensive image manipulation of products for packaging, 2D prototyping, product specs and advertising campaigns.
 
November 2008-March 2009
Design, development and prototype production of Lu-Me interactive lighting project in association with Articulate Communication and the Ideal Home Show 2009 (London), including all visual identity and communication, developing skills in 2D, 3D and 4D presentation.
 
October 2008
Commissioned to redesign the Norfolk Non-Native Species Initiative logo by Norfolk County Council (Norwich), responding to client needs and developing a desired outcome. Logo now used on all PR media.
 
Work with The Coach House Trust, Glasgow (Social Enterprise), designing and creating handmade contemporary furniture for sale in shop.

Summer 2007
Attachment with Pavillion Design Studio, Glasgow (Product & Graphic Design). Working on brand analysis and developing a suitable aesthetic/brand for Williams Brothers Brewing Co. website. Converting Williams Brothers Brewing Co. graphics into suitable format for pump labels.
 
Summer 2006
Attachment with One Foot Taller, Glasgow (Product &  Interior Design) - developing designs for lamp shades for interiors, and bespoke solid oak tables for a restaurant and a children’s home.
 
2002-2007
Work over this period has included work at delicatessens, gastropubs and a hotel, developing excellent customer service, organisational and teamwork skills. Experience at Adnams hotel also included a short customer management and etiquette induction course. Part-time gardener for local NHS Surgery between 2002 and 2005.
